FEAT OF
CLAY
Pots made of plastic, fiberglass,
foam, and concrete have become
such convincing imitators of
terra-cotta, you’ll have a hard
time seeing the difference.
They’re worth a look— many are
sturdier, lighter, and less expensive
than their clay counterparts. Can
you spot the pretender here? At
top is a pot made of rugged, high-
fired terra-cotta. The two at right
and bottom are low-fired c l a y -
inexpensive, but less durable. At
left—did you guess correctly?—is
a dyed cast concrete pot. Turn
the page for more look-alikes.
